Networkshop - Editors/Publishers

Abstract


This session is designed for publishers and editors of scholarly journals and will address many topical issues including:

  • Open access and the academy: reforming and opening the peer review process, implications for academic freedom;
  • New journals, new models: the how and why of starting a new journal, new economic models for old journals, encouraging open data and related practices;
  • Promotion and growth: building readership, authorship, and reviewership; open access is public access
  • challenges and benefits;
  • Improving the features and design of publishing software

This "Networkshop" will be introduced by John Willinsky, the founder and director of PKP, and will include brief overviews by the core PKP team of the entire PKP software suite: OJS, OCS, OAI Metadata Harvester, L8X, and OMP. Special attention will be paid to PKP's newest software modules - L8X and OMP - and the modularization of the PKP platform.
