Overview of the Conference
The 14th international Triennial Conference of the Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies will be hosted in 2007 by Canada.

ACLALS, an association of Commonwealth scholars established in the U.K. in 1963 and accredited to The Commonwealth in 2005, has eight national branches: Canada, Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, South Pacific/Australia, South Africa, Europe, West Indies, and the U.S. (Please go to www.aclals.org for further information.)

This conference. which is the major gathering of Commonwealth and Postcolonial scholars and writers, has come to Canada after 24 years. Previous conferences were held in India (2004), Australia (2001), Malaysia (1998), Sri Lanka (1995), Jamaica (1992), England (1989) and others.

Jeannette Armstrong, Okanagan writer/educator
Henry Giroux, cultural critic/educational theorist
Stephen Slemon, post-colonial critic
P. Sivakami, author of the first novel by a Tamil Dalit woman
Ngugi wa Thiong’o, African writer and critic
Robert J.C. Young, post-colonial critic
Cheryl Suzack, Aboriginal scholar
